 One final map?

The community majority decided, when we moved to the new host, that a communal town for everybody to live in would be nice. Rather than spending the hours to attempt to transition the old map to this server, we started over, with this idea in mind. Now, some time later, and after my admitted absence over the past week due to some personal matters, I feel this idea was a bust. We began with the intention to build a large enough area for everybody to have a small home. Community farms and such would be built for food, and a town mine for some initial resources.

While I'm not saying that nobody offered to help, the number supporting the idea, and the number willing to put helping the town ahead of their own ambitions was surprisingly low. That's not to say that there were some who did both, and contributed heavily to the initials stages leveling the area and such, but after that, everybody seemed to scatter, begin on their own builds, etc. Admittedly, trying to plan the paths and such, there was very little that could be done to help out, as the planning was done by myself and Invidicus, trying to ensure that the town could accommodate newcomers, new potential buildings, etc. By the time we were laying the paths, the final step before personal plots would be assigned, only Beast was still there, helping with this final step.

With my own lack of participation this week, and Invidicus' recovery from having his wisdom teeth pulled contributing to a less active role on the server, it seems the town is at a standstill. Thus, going back to my main point, the spawn town idea, while the community seemed interested in such a feat, the scale of the build discouraged many from helping when needed, and has us to the point that I see it never being completed. In my current diminished presence, I see no real option other than removing this map and starting anew. This time, as everyone has shown that the community aspect is good in theory, poor in practice, I would be cutting back on the commands available. There will be no more teleporting, only /home and /back so as to allow recovering items on death, and storing items from mining without the arduous trek back to your home base.

This will get everyone back on the lone wolf playing style they all seem to desire, and keep myself and those few willing to work on communal projects before my own, from wasting any more of our time. This is a near final decision on my part, and to all of you who do not agree with it, I understand if, should I finalize this proposal, you do not wish to join us on the new map.

I apologize for any efforts you have put in, again, after having to restart on the new server host, but what good is a spawn town that is empty, lacking progress, and not desired by the players? You will know very soon what my final decision is on the matter.

If we r on a new server, what is the IP, if we are on the old server, when is the change being made?

First off, why wouldn't it be the same server? Secondly, I simply said I am seriously considering this change, and you will be aware soon as to my final decision. I'm sorry if you feel this will rob you of all your hard work, again, or anything like that, but the community wanted a TOWN, and everybody went off on their own before we even had the area flattened. With 10 people on over the weekend, we could have had it leveled in about 6 hours, but it took quite a few days, simply because of the lack of interest in helping (not calling out anyone here, just saying).

After all the effort Invidicus and myself put in, among a few others, trying to get it to the point where we could possibly start building, and seeing how little interest there is in having homes there, now, I feel the entire effort was pointless, and a fresh start so as to remove all the damage to the world in trying to set this up, would be best. Also, it would give you all one final chance to set upon your own paths, and build your own towns and whatever it is everyone seems to want to do.

I highly support this change. At first the "Spawn Town" seemed as good as a idea as any, but due to its size, even if it was complete there weren't enough people to support making building, farms, ect. (the town being the base size of a 100+ population or many massive buildings which would take a very long time)

Although I DO support there being a spawn town, just much smaller than this was planned to be. In this "town" there would only be small offical buildings, such as a trading center, the spawning building, possibly a administrative notice building (place a sign on a wall in there for example) for all to see, a public advertisment board and such to where it would be helpful, but not take too much room out of the game.

Anyone up for it? There would be no public farms, no plots, just offical buildings.

I support this change completely. I, personally, never liked the idea of building on a flat square plot. I DO like the idea of finding cool places to set up and build. If everyone else wants to switch, im all for it Smile

PS: This time I wont be losing nearly 2 stacks of diamonds lol!

Sounds like a change that we all welcome and surely do need in order to move forward as a community. Looking forward to coming back and going forth as a group this time a round.

I agree with there being a new map, and we all just sort of spread out, but I think we should still have something central that we can all meet at, for trades and stuff. I will build this myself if I have to, but I think it should be there. If we do have this, then we should also have /spawn.

I am not suggesting a spawn town. Just a place to trade and talk.

I think that it would be cool if we had something like the MindCrack Server where there's a building that has a bunch of portals in it and each portal goes to someones house. This way everyone could have a big plot of land and everyones house would be easily accessible.

It seems there are several who may leave, should we make the transition over to a new map. Yes, they could be replaced through a MC forum topic, as you all have come from to begin with, but today at work, I decided I will make an attempt to salvage the map. The entire surface at the spawn, where we tirelessly worked to level and fill the area to make way for the town, will be regenerated, back to it's initial seed state. This will only extend down to the lowest point changed (probably about y=59 or so, and shouldn't affect anything, including Leading's secret underground base.

It is because I do not want those who have spent the past month and a half here, to leave, that I am attempting this method before a more permanent move is made. Fear not, those chests that were at the spawn have been saved, although permissions didn't copy over. But even if some stuff is lost, isn't it still better to have something rather than starting over again, I hope? So, this is my final decision for now, and changes will occur immediately. If something goes terribly wrong, one final attempt to fix the spawn can be made by rolling back to the world backup I made last night.

I hope this makes those who have worked hard, happy, and keeps everyone who is on the server, around for the time being. But that doesn't mean, a new map couldn't come in the near future, depending on how this goes.
